Freedom for Shokjang

Shokjang is a Tibetan writer and human rights defender, who served 3 years in prison for peacefully expressing his right to free expression. He was released on 19 March 2018.

Call on China to immediately lift the deprivation of his "political rights" after his sentence

To: Ma Yajun, Head of Tongren County Public Security Bureau, Jiang Shucheng, Secretary of Tongren County Party Committee, and Li Dongping, Director Qinghai Provincial State Security Department

I urge you to:

  • Lift the two years deprivation of "political rights" Shokjang will face, as he has been detained solely for peacefully exercising his rights;
  • Respect the fundamental right to freedom of expression, including with respect to those who peacefully express criticism of the government or views that are contrary to the state policies.
  • Ensure Shokjang is not harassed, intimidated or put under surveillance;
