Khenpo Kartse Sentenced: Release Him NOW!

Khenpo Kartse, a highly respected Tibetan Buddhist teacher and community leader, has been sentenced to two-and-a-half-years in prison in a secret Chinese trial; he has been in detention since December 2013.
Khenpo Kartse is suffering from serious medical health issues relating to his lungs and liver, for which he had sought regular medical attention prior to being detained. Recent reports state that he has been coughing up blood and appeals by his lawyers for his better treatment were regularly rejected by authorities.

Take Action NOW! Call on Luo Huining, Qinghai Party Secretary, and Liu Zhiqiang, Director of Qinghai Province Public Security Bureau, to immediately release Khenpo Kartse.

I am deeply disturbed about the sentencing of highly respected Buddhist Abbot Karma Tsewang (Chinese: 尕玛才旺), in Chamdo prefecture (Ch: Qamdo). Karma Tsewang, also known as Khenpo Kartse, is a community leader known for his promotion of language and culture rights amongst the Tibetan people and he has been wrongfully charged and I understand he is in very poor health and needs immediate medical attention.
Khenpo Kartse is known to be seriously ill with a liver and lung condition, and recent reports state that he has been coughing up blood and has not been allowed access to his doctor.
I urge you to release this innocent man immediately. I also urge that while he is still in your custody you ensure the conditions of his confinement are immediately improved that he be allowed access to regular medical examinations as expected under Chinese law.
