After occupying Tibet for over seventy years, China is escalating its assault on Tibetan identity.
China’s government is attempting to erase Tibet’s very name, forcing the Chinese term “Xizang” into international usage. This is a propaganda tactic straight from the playbook of colonial occupiers and is a weapon of propaganda, designed to rewrite history, strip away identity, and normalise occupation.
Beijing is leaning on museums, media, companies, and even international agencies to adopt “Xizang”, from French and British exhibitions to UNICEF and government bodies. Each time this word is used, it helps Beijing whitewash its occupation.
Calling Tibet “Xizang” or “Tibet, China” is to accept repression, occupation, and cultural destruction.
Sign this petition to demand governments, media, and institutions everywhere reject Beijing’s imposed terminology. Tell them that their words matter, that names matter!
Stand with Tibet. Reject “Xizang.”
