On 20 August, 2025, Tibetan activist Gonpo Kyi was seen lying injured outside a hotel in Lhasa after she reportedly jumped from a second-floor window. Chinese authorities had just denied her permission to visit her imprisoned brother, Dorjee Tashi, and placed her under de facto house arrest.
This was not an isolated incident. Gonpo Kyi has faced repeated harassment and detention simply for peacefully seeking justice for her brother, who has been unjustly imprisoned since 2008.
Her act of protest is a cry for justice. Now, her safety, health, and freedom are at risk — and the world must act.
We demand that Chinese authorities:
- Ensure Gonpo Kyi’s safety and access to medical care
- Stop all harassment against her and her family
- Release Dorjee Tashi immediately
- Respect Tibetans’ right to peaceful protest and expression
